Hypocrisy ...

  • hyp·o·crite
  • Pronunciation: \ˈhi-pə-ˌkrit\
  • Function: noun
  • Etymology: Middle English ypocrite, from Anglo-French, from Late Latin hypocrita, from Greek hypokritēs actor, hypocrite, from hypokrinesthai
  • Date: 13th century

1 : a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2 : a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

Hypocrites frustrate and amuse me. I guess the very essence of their make-up means that they inevitably fail to see their flaws yet take great joy from attempting to highlight the perceived flaws of others and therein lies the one thing that must hold them back from feeling happy and fulfilled. Surely if you have to tear down someone else in order to make yourself feel good about yourself, you have a problem?

Today, as I sit at my desk typing, looking out the window at paddocks of contented horses grazing in the sunshine, I love my life. In many ways, I am living a dream - certainly the dream I had as a child. How many people get to say that? Oh sure the sh*t can hit the fan from time to time, things are definitely not perfect and it can all get a bit hard but at least I am able to stand back and look at my life and be happy with what I have achieved, the wonderful family I have around me and the friends I have who I cherish greatly.

I think it is important not to sweat the small stuff and when life throws you a curve ball, it's the way you face that that defines who you are as a person. I hope I am perceived as a person who takes a bloody good swing at the curve balls and rejoices if I manage to smack them out of the park but doesn't dwell for too long on the strikes. I've struck out on plenty of occasions but I ALWAYS step back up to the plate with a fresh enthusiasm, leaving those failed attempts behind me, trying to improve my game as I go.

Anyway, it may not be much
by some people's standards but it is MY life and I think I have a lot to be proud of. It's only just beginning too - I have so much more to achieve and experience! Yes, this entry has been sparked by the behaviour of one individual but, rather than go into a futile battle with someone who is already lost and not worth the rented head space, I am choosing to share a philosophical part of myself with those of you out there in cyberland who can be bothered reading.

And now, I am off outside to spread some fert on my paddocks, re-seed and harrow the pugged bits & plant some seedlings in my vege garden - I will probably just stop and sit and smile for a bit too.

I will leave you with the immortal words of Mr Bobby McFerrin, "Don't worry, be happy".
