Time for a bit of a root 'n scoot'n good time!

The sun shone for a full five minutes yesterday and Ata took the opportunity to stretch his legs a little ...

Check out the lake in the background - and it was looking quite low at that time!

He has a name

Keryn has named her lovely boy 'Winiata' which is Wynyard in Maori. Wynyard has meaning because mum was bred at Wynyard Lodge stud as was his paternal great grandsire, Wynyard Agile. I have started calling him Ata (which means 'morning' in Maori). Lovely.

Was out with my camera this morning as the sun is back! I believe this will be a short lived reprieve from the hideous weather of late but it's so nice for him to have a day of sunshine. It's also a lot nicer for me when I am heaving the poo barrow about the place doing my chores!

Bella should be arriving around lunchtime and is due to foal shortly so we will be back on foal watch as of today - More exciting and sleep deprived times (but I would not have it any other way!).

Here are some photos from today.

Congratulations, it's a boy!

Born at 1.10am this morning to Hooty (Wynyard Night Owl) and Reilly (TF Life O'Reilly), a son. A bonny bay colt with a big white star and one little sock. Mum and baby doing really well. Delivery was text book and, aside from a contracted tendon on the off fore and a floppy ear, he's perfick! The tendon should resolve itself in a few days and, having had a foal born with a floppy ear before, I know that that will be completely normal in no time at all as well. I'll keep a close eye on him and, if the leg is still worrying in a few days, will call for the expert guidance of my wonderful vet.

For those of you who are not aware, Hooty has been leased out so this foal is not our foal. His 'Grandma' whizzed out to visit early this morning and is pretty darned happy with this 'little' guy. He's not named yet but she has some lovely ideas - She'd better hurry up though as I have started to call him 'Floppy' because of the ear and if she's not careful, it might stick!!

The weather is VILE so photos are pretty bad - All taken in the shed, minus the flash (hence a bit fuzzy). I can't wait for the sun to come back out so I can get some shots off of him a little more unfolded and out on the pasture.

He's very bonny and brave - already running rings around his mother (literally) but she's being quite firm with him so hopefully will keep him inline a little better than last year's reprobate, Rory.

Will leave you with some photos and a very brief video.

Congrats Keryn, he's a little superstar in the making!
